Cow is a common animal used by many tribes and ethnic groups in Nigeria as sacrifice to appease the spirit of a deceased adult. In Benue State, among the Idoma tribe, a whole cow is boiled in a large pot. Only the intestines are removed. The head must not be detached. When it is done, it is carried to a designated tree where the male adults sit round the beef to eat. Culture does not allow the use of a knife or any other object to cut the meat. They use only their fingers to cut the beef and eat.
